Surf to Your Health

I am in school for recreational therapy. and a lot of people i know are in school for physical therapy.
our goal, where our methods may be different, is to get the patient or client back to what they used to be doing.

recreational therapy has a different focus than PT, we focus on social interaction, coping skills and emotional status. and obviously recreation. we want to get the client back whatever they used to do prior to their injury or introduce them to something new to help cope with the injury or to promote social interaction. to promote healing.

this story is one man's struggle and success with his own rehab. it is a true inspiration to the field of therapy. well, at least to me. it reminded me of why i am doing what i am doing. it reminded me that i always want to do more. i want my patients to succeed and be as healthy as they possibly can be. and through something like this, they can. this story excites me.

i am going to link you to rather than copy and paste so you can get the video too. it almost made me cry. yeahhh, i'm a sap.

enjoy!

Carolina Hurricanes and YOU donate clean water

when disaster strikes, (such as the awful earthquake that hit haiti 10 days ago) i am all for donating money to the red cross and i support the HUGE telethon that will be on TV tonight to continue to donate money to haiti. however, sometimes its hard to just give your money away when you don't know exactly where its going or what is going to be done with it. its hard to donate money to someone "without a face". you wanna know..."how did i help?"

well.....listed below is one local way to donate some money. you will know exactly where its going and the purpose of your donation!!

its is a FUN, local way you can donate to the relief efforts in haiti.you can feel good about your donation and know it will make a difference to those who need it.

Hundreds strip in NYC for no-pants subway ride

No_Pants_Day
Hundreds of New Yorkers have been riding the city's subway trains in their underwear.
They stripped down to their undies on Sunday for the ninth annual No Pants Subway Ride.
The idea is to act like nothing unusual is going on.
Participants met up at six locations throughout the city. They formed groups and dispersed to subway stations to catch trains. Once inside the subway cars, they began calmly removing their pants and folding them up.
Most people read magazines or chatted with their companions like any other straphanger.
The event started in 2002 with just seven people. It has spread to other cities.
The stunt is organized by Improv Everywhere, a group that says its mission is to cause "scenes of chaos and joy in public places."
